Rafting

Do you wish a holiday full of adventure and fun? In the nearby area, you will find many professional rafting associations just a few minutes away from the holiday home. They provide canoes, rafts, sup, kayaks for all the activities that you can have on the Lima torrent. In the area, there are also summer schools for children.

Ponte Sospeso

Adventure lovers cannot miss a walk on Ponte Sospeso, a suspension footbridge located 36mt above the riverbed of the Lima torrent that connects Popiglio and Mammiano Basso. This is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world (it is 227mt long and 80cm wide!). You can reach it in 15 minutes by car.

Canyon Park

If you want to combine adventure with a relaxing immersion in nature, we suggest you reach the Canyon Park in Bagni di Lucca, which is less than 10 minutes away. In this park nature is the only protagonist. Here you can go trekking, rock climbing, zip lining on the Lima torrent, do yoga and so much more.

Orrido di Botri

Orrido di Botri is one of the most beautiful canyons in Tuscany. It is a natural reserve on the slopes of Rondinaio and Tre Potenze mountains. Expert guides organize excursions to admire the greenery of the area and discover all the secrets of its waters and caves. The site is open from June to September only, and you can reach it in about 40 minutes.

Hiking and mountain bikes routes

The area between Bagni di Lucca and San Marcello Pistoiese is full of CAI paths that you can walk or cycle. Trekking lovers and mountain bikers will find many routes to follow, including one through the woods that starts from our holiday home and reaches Abetone. We also recommend you walk one or more trails of the Cammino di San Bartolomeo: this path connects all the places that are dedicated to the cult of San Bartolomeo between Tuscany and Emilia. It passes through Cutigliano, San Marcello and Piteglio, thus allowing you to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The route is suitable for families with children too.

Prato Fiorito

Prato Fiorito is a Tuscan Mountain with a rounded peak that you can see from the holiday home! Its shape makes it unique and encourages visitors to go explore and reveal its secrets. You can reach it in 15 minutes by car and, once there, you can have a walk right up to the top. Spring is the perfect season to visit the site: in this period there are flowers blooming everywhere and the mountain really comes to life.

Abetone

Abetone is the perfect place for skiing in winter and walking in summer. It is only 24 km away, so you can reach its walking trails and slopes in just 30 minutes. If you don’t have your own ski equipment or you don’t plan to bring it with you on holiday, you can borrow everything you need directly on the spot.

Tuscan villages and towns

Lucchio and Vico Pancellorum

You can reach Lucchio and Vico Pancellorum in less than 10 minutes by car. These are two small villages that are located in the municipality of Bagni di Lucca and are surrounded by greenery. Once here, you can get lost in their alleys and breathe in the air of ancient times. Lucchio hosts the Rocca, which is located on the top of a rocky spur overhanging the valley floor of the Lima torrent. Reach it to enjoy a breathtaking panorama.

Barga and Castelnuovo

Barga is located 30 km away from the holiday home. You will reach the heart of this small town in about 40 minutes. Summer evenings are full of music and good food here. You can get to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana by continuing for 10 km from Barga. Once here, you can visit the surrounding villages (Castiglione, Corfino, Pontecosi) or drive for 30 more minutes to reach Orecchiella Park, Pania di Corfino, Grotta del Vento or San Pellegrino in Alpe.

Small and big towns

You can reach Lucca in less than 1 hour by driving for about 40 km. Once here, you can walk on the historical walls and get lost in its alleys. Pistoia is equally far but located in the opposite direction. Pisa and Viareggio are about 60 km away from the holiday home and you can reach them in about 1 hour. You cannot miss the opportunity to have a walk around Piazza dei Miracoli and spend a day at the most famous beach in Tuscany. Alternatively, Florence is 80 km away and you can reach it in less than 2 hours. The beauty of the city center and its museums are worth the trip. If you don’t want to drive long distances, you can easily get to the railway station of Fornoli (Bagni di Lucca) in just 20 minutes by car. From here, you can take a train to Lucca and Pisa, where you will find many connections to all the towns nearby.

Bagno Bernabò

If you are looking for relaxation, we highly suggest you drop by the Bagno Bernabò thermal baths in Bagni di Lucca, which are reachable in just 20 minutes. Here you will find a thermal water pool and a steam grotto where you can have massages, mud baths and several other treatments for both face and body.

Libreria Sopra la Penna

If you love art and literature, you cannot miss the Libreria Sopra la Penna: a magical literary cottage located in Lucignana. The cottage is about 26 km away from our holiday home and you can get here in just 35 minutes. Once here, you can lose yourself amongst the roses of the cottage garden, browse carefully selected books, have a lovely cup of tea, and enjoy delicious biscuits coming from the village’s grocery store. From here, you can also take a 40-minute walk in the forest and reach the Hermitage of Sant’Ansano or the village of Tereglio.

Local farms

We live in an area characterized by a deep love for nature and a strong appreciation for local products. If you share these feelings and are interested in fostering local businesses, we strongly recommend two km0 farms that we know very well and whose products we love and consume on a daily basis. Azienda Agricola Palmaia is located in Bagni di Lucca. It hosts our heifers and produces honey, fruits and vegetables, and maize flour all year round. You can reach it in 15 minutes. Azienda Agricola Giannini is located in Lucchio. It is famous for its cheese: pecorino (sheep cheese), goat cheese and the most delicious ricotta. You can reach it in just 5 minutes.

Supermarkets, restaurants and other services

The village of Popiglio (PT) is just 5 minutes away from the holiday home. Here you will find a bakery, a grocery shop, a pharmacy, and a post office. You can reach both San Marcello Pistoiese (PT) and Bagni di Lucca (LU) in just 15 minutes by driving for about a10-13km. These two towns offer everything you might need: supermarkets, newsstands, bars, restaurants, pizzerias, ice-cream shops, pharmacies, veterinarians, shops and all kind of services.
